CRIMINAL RECORD CHECKS

There was a change to the Criminal Record Check process this season that we have only recently become aware of.  We know that some of you may have made a trip down to Police only to be told you needed a letter from your organization to complete your check.  We apologize for any inconvenience that you may have experienced.  The Police Service did not notify us of this change so we did not find out until some of you brought it to our attention.

Last year a new addition to the process was added.  Anyone whose name and birthdate matched anyone in the “system” was required to have a fingerprint check done to confirm identity.  This was to get away from those who use an alias to commit crimes.

The fingerprint check is done in Ottawa so everything has to be sent there.  Last season there was not a charge for this.  Apparently Ottawa is now charging $25 for this service.

So this year, for those who require a fingerprint check, a letter from Eastside is needed to waive the $25 fee that Ottawa charges for the fingerprint checks.  Not everyone will need this letter but you don't know you need it until you get there and they do the preliminary check.  Eastside only reimburses $10 and Police will bill us directly for your check.

We have supplied the Police Service with a number of these letters with letterhead and president’s original signature.  So if you do need a letter, they will be at the Police Service and they can just fill in your name.  This saves everyone time and running around.

We are very grateful to the Saskatoon Police Service for accommodating our organization and volunteers so please remember to thank them when you go.

All team staff that sit on the bench or supervise practises should have a current Criminal Record Check (CRC).  Eastside requires an update every 2 years.  Please have your updates done as soon as possible as it protects our young charges but also our volunteers.
